Our Workshop
Watchmaking as a
Quiet Discipline
Pendulaire began from the conviction that watch servicing is most useful when it's methodical, transparent, and free of unnecessary urgency.

A Workshop Built Around the Watch, Not the Deadline
Pendulaire was established in George Town, Penang, by a watchmaker who had spent years in both retail and independent repair — and found the pace of retail servicing difficult to reconcile with the attention that mechanical watches actually need. The workshop on Jalan Dhoby was set up with a single premise: every watch that comes in deserves to be looked at properly, without the pressure of a queue waiting behind it.
George Town suited this approach. It is a city where traditional trades are still practiced patiently, where a customer can walk in and have a conversation about what their watch actually needs rather than what's on a price list. The heritage streets and unhurried rhythm of Penang felt like the right setting for this kind of work.
We focus on three services — movement cleaning and regulation, gasket renewal, and bracelet adjustment — and we do those three things well. We don't promise more than we can deliver, and we don't rush work that takes the time it takes.
Our Guiding Principles
Honesty Before Service
If a watch doesn't warrant the cost of servicing, we'll say so. A second opinion serves you better than an unnecessary bill.
Work at Appropriate Pace
Regulation takes time because the movement needs to settle after lubrication. We don't shorten that process to meet a faster turnaround.
Transparency Throughout
We describe what we find and what we plan to do before proceeding. Surprises belong elsewhere, not in a watch repair invoice.
Care for the Object
A watch is often a considered purchase or a piece with personal history. We try to work with that in mind.
The People at the Bench
A small team with complementary areas of focus.
Razif Hashim
Principal Watchmaker
Over fifteen years working with mechanical movements, with particular experience in column-wheel chronographs and vintage automatics. Trained in Kuala Lumpur and completed advanced coursework in Switzerland.
Lim Teck Hwa
Case and Bracelet Specialist
Focuses on the mechanical and structural side of watch cases — gaskets, case backs, clasps, and bracelet work. His methodical approach means bracelet adjustments are sized precisely, not approximately.
Nurul Ain
Workshop Coordinator
Manages client communication, intake tracking, and the workshop schedule. She ensures every watch that enters our care is documented from the moment it arrives until it leaves.
Standards We Work By
Not a checklist — a way of working that we find produces better outcomes for the watch and the client.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Movement components are cleaned in a multi-stage ultrasonic bath before fresh lubrication is applied, removing old oil residue that hand cleaning alone cannot reach.
Six-Position Regulation
Balance adjustment is measured across six standard positions — dial up, dial down, crown left, right, up, and down — to produce consistent performance throughout daily wear.
Torque-Specified Reassembly
Case backs and gasket fittings are retorqued to specification rather than hand-tightened by feel — a distinction that matters particularly for water resistance.
Intake and Tracking Documentation
Each watch is logged on arrival with a condition note. We track every piece through the service process and require identification before release.
Secure Workshop Handling
We work on one movement at a time at the bench. Watches not being actively serviced are stored in individual, labelled compartments in a locked cabinet.
Pre-Service Assessment Agreement
Before any service begins, we discuss our findings and costs with the client. No work proceeds without explicit agreement on scope and price.
Watch Repair in George Town, Penang
George Town has long maintained a culture of skilled trades — tailors, goldsmiths, and instrument makers among them. Watchmaking fits naturally into this tradition. Pendulaire operates from Jalan Dhoby, in a part of town where specialty workshops have occupied shophouse spaces for generations.
Our focus on mechanical watch servicing reflects the nature of the pieces that tend to come to us — family heirlooms, considered purchases from collectors, and watches acquired during travels that now need attention. These are not items people replace casually, which is why we approach each one as an individual task rather than a unit in a batch.
Penang's coastal humidity creates specific challenges for watch cases and gaskets that workshops in drier climates may not encounter as regularly. Our gasket service is particularly relevant for watches that will continue to be worn in this environment, and we are familiar with the moisture-related wear patterns that develop over time in tropical conditions.
We welcome collectors, everyday wearers, and those who have inherited a watch and want to understand its condition before deciding what to do with it. An honest assessment from us costs nothing — bring it in and we'll take a proper look.
